An Iranian Wedding (2004)
16 min. Directed, shot, and edited.
While filming at an all-male gathering of top officials for the wedding of ex-Mayor of Tehran Gholam Hossein Karbaschi’s daughter, I am harassed and nearly thrown out by a hardliner army general. This is a documentary of how reformists at that gathering turned this incident around by apologizing for the general’s misdeeds, thereby exposing themselves to danger.

The Iranian Mayor (1999)
5 min. Directed, shot, and edited.
A short documentary about former Tehran mayor Gholam Hossein Karbaschi, a radical city reformer who became a semi-heroic figure after billing the 1997 election victory of President Khatami. Karbaschi remained as such until he was mysteriously released from jail one year after being arrested on dubious charges in 1999. This film was shot over a 2-year period, before and after his jail term.
